In Briceño, a young municipality in the north of Antioquia, the Water Festival (Fiestas del Agua), the town's main festival, is celebrated every year between the end of June and the beginning of July.

For a week the municipality is filled with music, sports competitions, cultural exhibitions and parades. Local artists and guests of national stature liven up the party with live concerts in the main square of Briceño.

The Peasant Olympics are also celebrated, in which the inhabitants of the different villages that make up the municipality compete in short indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball or athletics tournaments. As is customary in various festivals in different towns in Antioquia, a parade of myths and legends is held in which the different theater groups and educational institutions of the town participate.

You can't miss, of course, the traditional desenguayabe sancocho with which the festivities end on Monday. The Water Festivals (Fiestas del Agua) are the perfect reason to visit Briceño and fall in love with the hospitality of its people and its attractions such as the natural pools of the Espíritu Santo, an ideal place for pot rides and afternoons of swimming.
