In August the municipality of Sandoná, about 50 kilometers west of Pasto, celebrates its Summer Festival, one of the most anticipated events in the region's festive calendar.

The festivals have a very varied program that pays tribute to different elements of local culture. Contests and sports competitions are a fundamental part of the festivities.

Traditional are the "chaza" tournaments - a racquet sport similar to tennis created by the indigenous peoples who inhabited the Colombian-Ecuadorian border in the 15th century - and the quincana - an obstacle race in which trucks, dump trucks and vans participate, as well as as the valid motorcycle speed.

In addition to these activities, musical days are held with entire days dedicated to different popular genres.

In this way, during the Summer Festivals (Fiestas de Verano) you can enjoy salsa afternoons in the park, vallenato nights and performances by the traditional string trios, typical of Nariño.

There are also food and craft fairs with local products and fireworks shows. The Summer Festivals are an expression of the pride and identity of Sandoná, and contribute to strengthening the sense of community and promoting local tourism.
