In July the town of Sogamoso celebrates the Sun and Steel Festival (Ferias del Sol), a typical festival with which the local population pays tribute to their traditions, particularly highlighting the llanera heritage in their culture.

For three days, the town becomes a hub of various artistic, cultural, gastronomic, and sporting activities. Among these, the crowning of the Queen of Sun and Steel, featuring contestants from different departments, is especially popular.

The parade of floats and delegations from nearby municipalities like Monguí, Tibasosa, and Aquitania is also a prominent event of the festival, as is the Grade A Horse Fair, which attracts horse enthusiasts.

Music plays a central role, with numerous performances by bands and symphonic groups. Dance displays to the rhythm of joropo and carranga, along with a wide variety of traditional dishes from both the plains and highlands—such as carne a la llanera, dried meat, cuchuco, Boyacense stew, mazamorra chiquita, puchero, and the famous arepas—complete the lively celebration, showcasing the cultural richness of the “City of the Sun.”
