At the beginning of July, the municipality of Puerto Rico, on the banks of the Guayas River in Caquetá, celebrates its traditional "Sampedrina Festival", a typical festival for the entire department.
During the weekend, Puerto Ricans and visitors can enjoy different activities such as troupe parades with typical Colombian costumes, cultural displays of Sanjuanero - traditional dance from Huila and Caquetá -, horseback riding, sporting events and live concerts with guest artists.
The pageant is one of the central events of the holidays. Candidates from different parts of the municipality compete for the crown, showing not only their beauty but also their knowledge of the local culture and their San Juan dancing skills.
The pageant also includes a children's category that crowns the Children's Ambassador of Puerto Rico.
The Sampedrina Festivals in Puerto Rico, Caquetá, are not only an opportunity to celebrate cultural and religious traditions, but also to strengthen community ties and attract visitors who want to experience the hospitality and folklore of this region.
