Each year at the end of June, the municipality of San Agustín, famous for its archaeological park with remnants of indigenous cultures dating back over 5,000 years, celebrates its traditional Sampedrino Festival (Carnavales de San Agustín), a celebration of the department of Huila.
The festival includes activities typical of the patronal festivities in the department, such as horseback parades, cultural showcases of the "sanjuanero huilense", dance troupes paying homage to local culture and the region’s pre-Columbian traditions, and live performances by guest artists.
The Municipal Bambuco Beauty Pageant is also held, where candidates from different parts of San Agustín showcase their skills in dancing the "sanjuanero", vying for the crown and the chance to represent their town in the Departmental Bambuco Pageant held annually in Neiva.
Additionally, religious activities in honor of Saints Peter and Paul, such as processions and masses, add a devotional aspect to the celebration. The Sampedrino Festival in San Agustín attracts both tourists and locals, offering a space where culture, music, and history converge in a festive and tradition-filled atmosphere.
