Since the 1970s, the Rose Festival (Fiesta de La Rosa) has been celebrated in the picturesque town of Jardín, about 130 kilometers south of Medellín.
This festivity, originally celebrated in January every two years alternating with the Riosucio Carnival, has been celebrated annually since 2021 in May, around the municipality's anniversary, on the 23rd of this month.
The festivities include an extensive cultural and recreational program.
There are folk music and dance presentations, art exhibitions and craft fairs where visitors can purchase typical products and works of local artisans, all while enjoying the beautiful floral arrangements typical of the municipality with which the central square is decorated these days. .
Sports competitions and traditional games are also an integral part of the festivities with typical activities such as billiards and basketball tournaments. One of the main events of the festival is the parade of comparsas where local artists exhibit all their creativity to show the history and identity of the municipality, representing its customs and myths and legends.
You can also see performances from movies and television series, such as the Vecindad del Chavo del Ocho troupe that was a great success in the 2022 edition of the festivities.
At the end of the event, the best troupes are awarded.
These festivals not only celebrate the beauty of the flowers and the natural wealth of Jardín, but also strengthen community ties and promote tourism, consolidating themselves as an essential tradition in the cultural calendar of Antioquia, and a perfect time to visit one of the most beautiful towns in the department.
