In September, the "Porro" Musical Festival (Festival del Porro) takes place in Medellín, one of the main festivals dedicated to this party musical genre characteristic of the Colombian Caribbean coast.

The festival was born in 1993 in the Santa Rosa de Lima neighborhood in Comuna 13 of Medellín, a sector that continues to be the main stage.

During the festival, various parks and public squares in this town are transformed into stages where porro groups, the traditional “papayeras”, perform, thanks to the “Porro al Barrio” initiative.

These groups, dressed in typical costumes, perform a variety of porros that invite the public to dance and enjoy the contagious rhythm of this festive music.

During the concerts you can see the different varieties of "porros" that are part of the popular culture of the neighborhoods in Medellín such as the palitiao or pelayero porro, the tapao porro and the marked porro.

The Medellín "Porro" Festival (Festival del Porro) not only promotes appreciation for this musical genre, but also strengthens the cultural identity and social cohesion of the city.

By bringing music to the neighborhoods, the festival ensures that porro remains a living and vibrant part of Colombian cultural heritage, celebrating its richness and diversity in the heart of Medellín.
