In December in Guapi, the patron saint festivities are celebrated in honor of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Purísima de Guapi.

The central event of the festivities is the emblematic "balsadas parade". The Guapireños decorate their canoes with elaborate wooden structures that turn them into true floating altars.

Each of these boats is crowned with an image of the Virgin Mary and decorated with ribbons, balloons and lights. The parade, which takes place at night, illuminates the Guapi River with a show of light and color while songs and prayers are sung.

At the same time, the festivities feature a series of cultural and recreational activities that reflect the Afro-descendant identity of Guapi. The chonta marimba, drums and traditional songs resonate in the town during the nights, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere. In addition, artistic presentations, folk dances and competitions are held.

The Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Immaculate Conception not only strengthen faith and devotion, but are also an opportunity to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific, which characterizes Guapi and its people.
