In September the municipality of Salento celebrates its anniversary with the "Fiesta de la Palma de Cera". During a week full of activities, the people of Salento commemorate the founding of the town in 1848, being the oldest in the entire department, and pay tribute to the emblematic palms of the Cocora Valley, the national tree of Colombia.

Parades are some of the most anticipated events of the holidays. In addition to the traditional folklore parade with the iconic Willy Jeep, the Castañeda Family parade takes place, a tradition born in the Carnival of Blacks and Whites of Pasto that has spread to some festivals in the Coffee Zone, in which it is recreated in a joking way the arrival of the colonizers, paying tribute to the roots of the town.

In addition to the parades, the festivals have craft and gastronomic fairs where you can taste typical dishes such as patacones, paisa beans or different sweets, juices and ice creams made from cherimoya. The festivals also include sports competitions, games and traditional music concerts.

The Salento Palm Festivals not only promote local culture and ecotourism, but also reinforce the commitment to the conservation of this iconic tree and celebrate the richness of the Coffee Cultural Landscape.
