On July 25, "Llanero" Day (Día Departamental del Llanero) is celebrated in Arauca, as well as in several other municipalities in the department, a commemoration that was born at the initiative of historian Luis Alberto Sabogal and was recorded in Law 1907 of 2018.
The festival, which is celebrated on the anniversary of the Battle of the Vargas Reservoir (Batalla del Pantano de Vargas) where the role of the "llanero lancers" was crucial in the victory of the independence army, begins in the early morning with the llanero dawn in which the characteristic Cerrero coffee cannot be missed. and milking songs.
During the day, parades take place through the streets of the city, filling the atmosphere with music and dance that exalt the llanera culture. In addition, horseback rides are held and food stalls are set up where attendees can enjoy the characteristic cuisine of the region.
"Llanero" Day is an opportunity for Araucanians to celebrate their cultural heritage, promote their traditions and strengthen their sense of regional identity, keeping alive the customs that define the Llanero people.
