The "Laboyano Folkloric Festival" (Festival Folclórico Laboyano) , named after the popular term used to refer to the inhabitants of Pitalito due to its location in the Laboyos Valley, is the main festivity of this municipality, the second most populated in the department of Huila.
The festival is celebrated within the framework of the San Juan Bautista and Saints Peter and Paul festivities, in the last weeks of June.
During the festival, the city is filled with color with parades, traditional dance performances, music competitions, and craft exhibitions.
Floats and dance troupes, decorated with typical motifs, parade through the streets as attendees enjoy artistic performances that pay tribute to local Laboyano customs.
The festival also includes the election and crowning of Miss Pitalito, a contest in which candidates from different communes and districts of the Laboyos Valley compete for the honor of representing the municipality in the Departmental Bambuco Pageant in Huila.
Additionally, the festival celebrates the agricultural richness of the region with horseback parades, talks on coffee, and the popular "Viandas Festival", where a variety of local dishes can be enjoyed, including the renowned tamal, the star of the "King of the Tamal" Contest, which awards the best producers of this traditional dish.
