In February, the municipality of La Macarena, home to the beautiful Caño Cristales, organizes the Río Guayabero Summer Festival (Festival de Verano), an event that celebrates the bond between the Macareña community and the river that borders the town center.

Sports and games take center stage during the weekend. The river and its beaches host activities like soccer and volleyball championships, the grand regatta, and the "atarraya" contest, a competition where locals showcase their skill with the region’s traditional fishing net.

In addition to sports competitions and activities, the festival features the popular Color Fest, a staple of summer festivals in the eastern plains, where attendees cover themselves in colorful Holi powders while enjoying live music.

Performances by local artists and special guests add to the festive atmosphere.

The La Macarena Summer Festival (Festival de Verano) offers an experience that combines nature, sports, and fun, promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.
