In August the municipality of Finland, Quindío, celebrates its anniversary with the Basket Festival (Fiestas del Canasto). With this event, the Filandeños commemorate the founding of the town in 1878 within the framework of the Antioquia colonization and pay tribute to the local artisans.

The craft fair is the central space of the festival. Baskets of all sizes and shapes, chairs, baby cribs and different decorative elements, all made with rattan, are displayed by local artisans so that visitors can purchase them and learn first-hand about the quality of Finnish craftsmanship.

Basket-making competitions are also held for artisans in which they must make a basic basket in the shortest time possible.

The "Reinado del Canasto" (Basket Beauty Pageant), the parades with traditional Jeep Willys, a farmers' market where fresh, locally grown products can be purchased, and folk music and dance performances are other attractions that enliven the streets of the municipality during the festivities.

This Festival not only promotes the recognition and preservation of the municipality’s artisan tradition but also fosters tourism and community participation, strengthening the sense of belonging and cultural identity of Filandia.
