In June, on a biennial basis, the municipality of Manzanares in the Alto Oriente of Caldas celebrates its "Fiestas de la Cordialidad", a festival born in 1961 that has become one of the main events in the municipality's festive calendar.
The festivals, which take their name from the nickname of Manzanares, known as the “Cordial City”, have a varied cultural, sports and recreational program with activities such as soccer, basketball and skating championships, artistic parades of floats and troupes, meetings of symphonic bands and the traditional alboradas and popular festivals that bring together the Manzanares community around music.
There are also presentations of folk dances and concerts with local and national artists, offering a varied musical program that includes genres such as tropical music, vallenato and popular music.
The festivals also have a pageant in which candidates from all the towns and villages of the municipality participate, as well as from the Manzano neighborhoods in cities such as Medellín and Manizales.
The "Fiestas de la Cordialidad" not only strengthen the social ties and cultural identity of Manzanares, but also boost the local economy, attracting visitors who seek to enjoy the hospitality and festive atmosphere of this charming municipality.
