At the turn of the year in the municipality of Chinavita, fairs and festivals are held in honor of the Virgen del Amparo, patron saint since the beginning of the 19th century.

The festivals are celebrated in commemoration of a miracle that, according to tradition, occurred on January 1, 1824 when a deteriorated painting of the Virgin of Amparo suddenly appeared restored in the parish church of Chinavita.

The festivities are marked by the solemn Eucharist celebrated on January 1 in which, in addition to welcoming the new year, the people of China commemorate the miraculous restoration of the painting.

The Eucharist is complemented by a procession that runs through the main streets of the municipality and a fireworks show. Throughout the week of celebrations, Chinavita is filled with cultural and recreational activities such as parades of floats and troupes, music shows and folk dances with performances by local groups.

Livestock and pig fairs are also held, as well as traditional farmers markets that give local producers the opportunity to display and sell their products.

In addition, a gastronomic fair is organized where attendees can enjoy typical dishes from the region, highlighting Boyaca cuisine. The Chinavita Fairs and Festivals (Ferias y Fiestas en Honor a la Virgen del Amparo) are a celebration that strengthens the sense of community and promotes local pride, consolidating itself as a significant event in the cultural calendar of the municipality.
