At the end of June, the municipality of Buenavista, about 105 kilometers west of Tunja, celebrates its fairs and festivals in honor of its patron saint, San Pedro Apóstol, whose holiday is commemorated on the 29th of the month.
During the festivities, different activities are carried out that highlight the culture of the region, such as horseback riding, cultural displays with typical costumes, music and folk dances, agricultural fairs with bovine and equine exhibitions, and silletas displays with agricultural products.
Within the framework of the fairs and festivals, the celebration of Farmer's Day is carried out in which a market is organized in which local farmers can exhibit and sell their products, and a complimentary lunch is offered to peasant families, that on this date they gather to share as a community around a dish.
Concerts are also offered with guest artists, exponents of different popular genres in the region such as carranga, northern music and Andean rhythms.
The Fairs and Festivals of San Pedro Apóstol (Ferias y Fiestas en honor a San Pedro Apóstol) in Buenavista not only celebrate the religious tradition of the region, but also strengthen community ties and strengthen commerce and tourism, consolidating itself as an important festival for the cultural identity of the municipality.
