During carnival season, the "Sirenato de la Cumbia" is celebrated in Puerto Colombia, a cultural and folkloric festival that pays tribute to cumbia, one of the most representative musical genres of the Caribbean region.

During "El Sirenato", activities such as parades, musical performances and traditional dances take place. These activities seek to highlight and preserve cumbia as an intangible cultural heritage, in addition to promoting tourism and a sense of identity among the inhabitants of Puerto Colombia and its visitors.

The main event, however, is the pageant in which the Mermaid of Cumbia is chosen from among candidates from various towns in the department of Atlántico, a queen who represents beauty, talent and love for cumbia and local traditions.

Participants must demonstrate their skill in dancing cumbia, as well as their knowledge and appreciation for the cultural roots of this rhythm. Likewise, “Sirenas” are awarded in the children's and pre-youth categories.

Through the Sirenato de la Cumbia, a tradition that remains fundamental to the cultural identity of the Caribbean region is celebrated and revitalized, reinforcing the community's connection with its roots and projecting its cultural wealth into the future.
