At the end of August, the municipality of Envigado pays a colorful tribute to its own traditions during the Culture Week and "Carriel" Festivals (Semana Cultural y Fiestas del Carriel).

The celebration was born in the middle of the 20th century at the initiative of the Envigade intellectual Hernando Garcés Uribe who in 1946 proposed the idea of celebrating a festival in the town in homage to the characteristic Antioquia carriel, in the image of the Corn Festival that was celebrated in Sonsón.

The first edition of the "Carriel" Festival took place in 1951, which makes it one of the oldest festivities in Antioquia.

For two weeks, attendees can enjoy a varied program that includes activities for all ages, such as sporting events, parades, food fairs, concerts, art exhibitions and film screenings.

Typical "Paisa" customs are protagonists in events such as the International Billiard Tournament in the Park, the silletera exhibition in which the best flower silletas are awarded, the Trova Festival and the competitions for the best empanada and best blood sausage in Envigadeña.

The Carriel Culture and Festival Week (Semana Cultural y Fiestas del Carriel) is an unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in the typical customs of the Aburrá Valley and much of Antioquia, in a party full of color, music, flavors and all kinds of entertainment.
