In Filadelfia, about 50 kilometers north of Manizales, the traditional Regional Sports Games (Juegos Deportivos Culturales y Fiestas Regionales) are held every August, one of the main events in the municipality's festive calendar.
Sport is the main protagonist of these festivities. During the weekend, tournaments and competitions are held in different disciplines, from the most popular team sports such as soccer, micro-soccer, basketball and volleyball, to swimming, chess, shuffleboard and billiards.
Teams from different municipalities in the department participate in the championships, as well as teams from colonies of Philadelphians residing in other cities such as Medellín, Bogotá and Pereira.
In addition to sporting events, during these festivals cultural displays are held with music, dances and folk costumes and parades of floats and troupes.
The pageant is another of the most anticipated events of these holidays, with candidates from all over the department. Local gastronomy also plays a prominent role, with samples of typical dishes that reflect the culinary richness of the area.
This event is fundamental to Filadelfia´s identity, as it reinforces social ties, energizes the local economy and promotes tourism, attracting visitors interested in enjoying the warmth of its people and the beauty of its surroundings.
