In October in Capurganá, a district of the municipality of Acandí known for the beauty of its beaches, the Cigua Festival (Festival de La Cigua) is celebrated, named in honor of a type of mollusk characteristic of the region, considered an aphrodisiac.

During the festival you can enjoy this local product, whose completely artisanal fishing has been carried out in the region since pre-Hispanic times and which is normally prepared in a stew with coconut milk, although it can also be consumed in empanadas, casseroles and arepas.

In addition to the gastronomic exhibitions, during the days of the festival the local culture is also highlighted with displays of dance and folk music such as the fandango and the shawm, parades of typical costumes, a pageant and concerts by renowned Colombian artists who have included in recent years names like Ana del Castillo, Churo Díaz and Jorge Celedón.

This festival is not only a festival, but also a community effort to preserve biodiversity and local traditions, seeking to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable development in the Darién region.
