At the beginning of April the municipality of Chinchiná celebrates its birthday. With a great festival, the "Chichinenses" commemorate the founding of this town by Antioquia settlers within the framework of the migratory movement called Antioquia Colonization, in the mid-19th century.
The anniversary festivities include different sporting and cultural activities such as cycling events, billiard tournaments, folk music and dance performances and the traditional military parade, one of the central events of the festivities along with the Eucharist in the Basilica Menor Nuestra Señora De Las Mercedes.
During the weekend, the nights are enlivened with live concerts in Simón Bolívar Park, the town's main square, bringing the entire community together around music.
The "Chinchiná" Anniversary Festivals (Cumpleaños de Chinchiná) are not only an opportunity to celebrate the identity and cultural heritage of the municipality, but they also promote unity among its inhabitants and encourage tourism, boosting the local economy.
