Every year, since 1997, the emblematic colonial town of Villa de Leyva is home to the Astronomy Festival (Festival de Astronomía), one of the most important scientific dissemination events in the country that normally takes place in February.

The climate of the region that guarantees a good average of clear skies and the distance of Villa de Leyva from large sources of light pollution make this town an ideal place for astrotourism, as was recognized in the last edition of the festival, in which Villa de Leyva received its certification as a Starlight town, by the foundation of the same name. The Astronomy Festival is a perfect occasion to practice astrotourism.

The numerous telescopes installed in the town's central square and expert guidance allow amateurs of all ages to explore the beauty of the cosmos.

In addition to this, within the framework of the festival, talks and scientific dissemination conferences are held with expert astronomers and physicists, as well as workshops for children and astrophotography exhibitions and competitions.

The Villa de Leyva Astronomy Festival (Festival de Astronomía) encourages scientific curiosity and appreciation of the cosmos, offering an educational and fascinating experience for all astronomy lovers and a different way of sightseeing for the whole family.
